Alone Together
In the dark there was the echoing sounds of screams. Pete’s soles snapped against the decaying lino of the long hallway. The air he gulped tasted musty and sat heavily in his aching stomach. He rounded a corner. What had they fed him; he wondered the thought crashing quickly beneath the need for Joe, Andy and Patrick. The names repeated, a name for a step; Joe, Andy, Patrick. He twisted as he ran; the hallway behind him was empty. They couldn’t be far behind. He squeezed the gory hook in his hand and kept going.
